The 1950s were the birth of the information age and computers

 

• Healthcare institutions began using computers for financial and accounting purposes (Sewell & Thede, 2012)

 

• Second generation computers were created (Sewell & Thede, 2012)

 

• Jack Kilby created the integrated circuit, which would be the foundation of the microchip (Texas Instruments, 2007 as cited in Sewell & Thede, 2012)
