1.  Pretend you are searching to hire a nurse informatics specialist in your workplace. Create an advertisement to recruit a nurse informatics specialist. Include the roles, responsibilities, and characteristics you feel would make a good nurse informatics specialist. Be creative and use any avenue you would like (pictures, videos, new paper ads, etc.) to make your advertisement.

 

2.  Review the video titled “The Future of Nursing” found under the Future heading of this website.  Observe the nurses, patients, the care, the care setting, and nurse-patient interactions.  How can nursing informatics address some of the issues you have identified?

 

3.  Have you seen a significant growth of nursing informatics and nursing informatics specialist positions in your organization? If so, what do you think has contributed to this development? If you have not seen a significant growth of nursing informatics in your workplace, why do think that is? What factors may be stunting the growth of informatics in your area?

 

4.  In the question and answer section of this website, Oliver identified the challenges he faced in the advancement of nursing informatics.  Have you faced similar challenges in your workplace?  How did you address these challenges? If you have not been faced with similar challenges, how might you gain greater acceptance of nursing informatics by nurses and other healthcare professionals?

 

5.   What do you feel is the most valuable contribution of nurse informatics specialists? How have your perspectives changed about nurse informatics specialists as a result of this presentation and the overall NURS 602 course?
