The Canadian Nursing Informatics Association (CNIA) was established in 1991 (Kaminski, 2014). CNIA’s mission is to be Canada’s representative for nursing informatics (Canadian Nursing Informatics Association [CNIA], n.d.)

The Canadian Journal of Nursing Informatics was established in 2006 (Kaminski, 2014).

In 2006, the CNA launched an e-nursing strategy, the Canadian Nurses Portal Project, or NurseONE (Kaminski, 2014). NurseONE aspires to guide and develop information and communication technology initiatives (Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), 2006a).

In 2012, the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) published informatics competencies for entry to practice registered nurses, as well as a resource list for nursing informatics information. These CASN documents facilitate the development of informatics skills required of student nurses by providing direction for nursing education (Kaminski, 2014).
